Frequently Asked Questions

What is i quit?

During the month of January 2010, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is challenging people all over Ontario to “Give it up for CAMH”. Turn over a new leaf by either quitting a bad habit or starting a good one and invite your friends and family to sponsor your efforts in support of CAMH!

When you say "i quit", you will show solidarity and support for those with addiction and mental health issues.

What is Sun Life Financial's matching gift?

Donors who contribute to the i quit campaign will have their donation matched by Sun Life Financial, dollar-for-dollar, up to a total maximum of $50,000. This rare and generous offer exponentially increases the impact of each donation and provides donors with the chance to double their impact.

What are the prizes and incentives?

Extreme Fitness and Running Room will be offering prizes and incentives to participants. Extreme Fitness will give out 10 annual memberships as prizes to the top individual fundraising participants. They will also provide one month trial memberships to all i quit participants.

The Running Room will also award a prize to the top individual fundraising participant.

How does it work?

Either quit a bad habit or adopt some positive new behaviour and invite your friends and family to sponsor your efforts, or challenge someone else to quit theirs. You can make it fun or make it meaningful. The i quit campaign runs for the month of January and while we encourage permanent positive behaviour changes, we also welcome participants to challenge themselves and support CAMH by “quitting” something for the campaign.

And remember, although the i quit campaign is for the month of January, we encourage you to keep the positive change going all year.

How do I quit safely?

i quit is a fundraising campaign that encourages position behavior change. If you have any concerns about your i quit resolution and any possible health implications (such as beginning a new exercise regiment) please consult your doctor.

Can I challenge someone to quit?

Great idea! Wouldn’t you love to get your friend, partner, or boss to quit that pesky habit of theirs? Here are some suggestions on how to Challenge a quitter:

  1. Get your boss to quit holding meetings for a week.

  2. Challenge your kids to quit eating junk food for a month.

  3. Challenge your friend to quit texting for a week.

  4. Challenge your loud colleague to take a vow of silence for a day.

  5. Challenge your friend to stop driving their car for the month and take public transportation.

Just click on “Challenge a quitter”.

Can we do a group quit?

There is strength in numbers so why not form or join a we quit team? Get some friends or co-workers to take the challenge with you. You can also start a friendly competition and challenge other teams in your office or your industry to see who can raise the most funds.

Set up one fundraising page for the whole group, under the main organizer’s name, by clicking i quit and following the steps. You can then send out the link to everyone who’s participating in the quit, to share with their family and friends so they can all donate via this one page.

Have each participant set up their own fundraising page by clicking “i quit” and following the steps. That way each person on the team can upload their own photo, set their own goal, and do their own fundraising. You can always give a prize to the person who raises the most!

What is the CAMH Foundation?

The CAMH Foundation raises funds in support of the CAMH mission and vision. Your gifts help to improve the lives of those who face mental illness and addiction, and help to create communities in which these people can access support and thrive.

Donors to the CAMH Foundation improve the lives of those facing mental illness and addiction, by enabling CAMH to provide the very best in research and care for our clients. Our donors pave the way for innovation and discovery, and enable CAMH health professionals to respond quickly and effectively to needs and opportunities as they arise, assuring that our ongoing needs will be met. Chairs of learning, state-of-the art equipment, research fellowships, bioethics, and initiatives in client care are just a few areas where our donors have opened doors to better care and research.

In addition to raising funds, together we create a better world for those facing mental illness and addiction by increasing awareness and acceptance of these conditions. We appreciate each and every gift to the CAMH Foundation. Every gift represents a victory in our fight against the stigma of mental illness and addiction.

Where does my money go?

The funds raised from the i quit campaign will help CAMH to:

  • Provide excellent clinical care to people facing mental illness and addiction.
  • Continue our ground-breaking research programs.
  • Break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction.
  • Provide the best possible training to health professionals across North America.
  • Redevelop and transform our Queen Street site into an amazing 'urban village' where CAMH buildings will mix with shops, restaurants and offices and where the stigma around our current address will cease to exist.
